Cosmetic surgery has become an increasing trend among the male population for reasons that include feeling better, looking younger and boosting one's career. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reports that nine percent of all cosmetic procedures were male (1.1 million); 220,000 were surgical, while 901,000 were minimally-invasive procedures.
Also reported were the top five surgical and minimally-invasive procedures, which are shown here:

Top Five Male Cosmetic Surgical Procedures in 2008 |
Top Five Male Minimally-invasive Cosmetic Procedures in 2008 |
|
Nose reshaping (75,000) |
Botox (314,000) |
|
Eyelid surgery (31,000) |
Laser hair removal (174,000) |
|
Liposuction (27,000) |
Microdermabrasion (174,000) |
|
Breast reduction in men (18,000) |
Chemical peel (86,000) |
|
Hair transplantation (13,000) |
Laser skin resurfacing (49,000) |
It is abundantly clear from this report that non-invasive treatments are gaining popularity, and a boost in career seems to be the driving factor. Two thirds of cosmetic surgeons said that men were requesting surgery to remain competitive in the workplace, while only one third were requesting surgery to remain attractive to a partner or spouse.
In general, men want to feel confident in the way they look. In the workplace, gaining respect and obtaining a better paid position is reason enough for many men to invest in cosmetic procedures.
Previous generations elected to grow old gracefully because there was no other choice. Today, however, men do have a choice, and due to the popularity and safety of most cosmetic procedures, men have decided to improve their appearance as much as women do.
Plastic surgery is definitely not just a girl thing anymore.
