LASIK after Premium Cataract Surgery

By Jeffrey Martin MD

Published on May 12, 2010

LASIK has been used to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism for years. Laser vision correction has become popular among Americans because it is accurate and safe, and has become even safer in recent years. Dr. Jeffrey Martin, of Smithtown, New York in Long Island, has been performing the best in LASIK for years: bladeless custom LASIK. In this laser eye surgery, Dr. Martin uses Intralase, a blade-free laser, to make a superficial flap in the cornea. He then does the laser vision correction under that flap in custom fashion. Every patient has a fingerprint of their vision obtained through WaveScan and that information is then used to correct vision.

In patients that have cataract surgery, there are several premium implants that are now available. These implants, such as the accommodating crystalens, allow patients to see far and near, but it is imperative that the target outcome is realized. If a patient does come out slightly nearsighted or farsighted, Dr. Martin who is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at SUNY Stony Brook, is able to correct that residual prescription using iLASIK, or bladeless custom LASIK. This newer indication for LASIK has made Dr. Martin's cataract patients clearer without the need for invasive intervention.
