Dr. Payam John Kahen performes Trichophytic Closure
Trichophtic closure is a technique that allows hair to grow through the typically narrow donor scar from hair transplantation to ake that scar even harder to see
With FUT or traditional hair transplansplantation. After the strip is removed from the sides and the back of the head to get the hair follicles for transplantation. After the strip is removed, the gap on the donor area is closed by pulling the edges together and suturing them. After healing a typical donor scar may be about 2 mm wide and is easily concealed by keeping the hair above the scar ¾ inch or longer.
Some men choose to have FUE instead of removing a strip. This procedure is discussed on the HAIR TRANSPLANTATION page of the web-sight. FUE creates many scattered tiny scars that are harder than FUT so it is not a practical option for patients who have a large area to cover.
Trichophytic closure was designed to allow men to have FUT but to allow men to have FUT but to avoid having a perfectly smooth, bald linear scar. It would be dishonest to say that a trichophytic scar is invisible but it can sometimes be very difficult to see; even with short hair. Some trichophytic closure patients may be able to wear their hair almost as short as FUE patients.
Performing trichophytic closure Is technically easy for experienced hair transplant surgeons like Dr. Kahen. A 1mm wide ledge of the epithelial (surface) Lauer of the skin is removed from either the upper or lower skin edge. The tips of 1 or 2 rows of hairs are cut off with this ledge. The epithelial edges are brought together. The cut hairs will later grow through the scar to help conceal it
In the initial recovery stage it is possible to get more ingrown hairs, pimples redness and itch with trychophytic closure than with a traditional closure.
Typical Traditional donor scars from FUT are very easy to hide. With trichophytic closure, those scars can be even easier to hide; even with shorter hairstyles.
