There are known effects on blood supply to the scalp and other areas of the body when a person smokes. If you are considering hair transplant smoking is recommended to be stop a week before surgery and two weeks after surgery. Smoking causes constriction of blood vessels, predominantly due to its nicotine content. The carbon monoxide in smoke decreases the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood. These factors both contribute to poor wound healing and may also contribute to poor hair growth. We warn patients that if they smoke, they run the risk of losing hair from a transplant. Other than just affecting your hair smoking cause a lot of other health problem and we hope our patients take this into consideration and try to quit all together.
