August 21, 2009

Shedding accurse between 2 to 4 weeks after hair transplant surgery. Shedding of some of the patients existing hair in and around the area of the transplant is a relatively common occurrence. Patients should not be concern; the mechanism appears to be a normal physiologic response of the body due to the stress on the area of surgery. Shedding is a normal part of the hair transplant process and is unavoidable.  However the hair does grow back so patients should not be to concern when this occurs. There are ways to minimize the effects of post-operative shedding. One is using medication, Propecia reverses the miniaturization process in many individuals and its use may decrease the risk of shedding.
