Mesotherapy Procedure

For patients who desire the slimming results of liposuction but are unwilling to undergo an invasive surgical procedure, mesotherapy is an excellent alternative. Mesotherapy is a non-invasive treatment used for body contouring. During a mesotherapy treatment session, tiny injections of carefully chosen compounds are applied to problem areas to dissolve fat, and the fat is then quickly disposed of by the body’s natural waste system. Mesotherapy results are typically impressive, especially given the few side effects associated with the procedure, and sometimes become apparent after just one session.

Before Undergoing Mesotherapy Treatment

Before a mesotherapy treatment session, it is recommended that you eat a high-protein meal and avoid caffeine and other stimulants. Though allergic reactions to mesotherapy drugs are rare, your doctor will also conduct an allergy test 24 hours before your scheduled treatment session.

The Mesotherapy Procedure

Mesotherapy utilizes micro-injections of fat-burning drugs, delivering them to pockets of accumulated fat or areas affected by cellulite. This delivery method eliminates most or all of the medication’s side effects and contra-indications. In addition, because mesotherapy drugs directly reach the target area, miniscule amounts of medication are needed.

Such micro-injections of drugs are relatively painless. A local anesthetic can be used to numb the area but is rarely needed. It’s recommended that first-time mesotherapy patients undergo their initial treatment with no numbing agents, because most people find that they can tolerate the treatment.

Before the session, your doctor will carefully map the treatment area. This stage is particularly important in the treatment of cellulite, as cellulite may only be visible when the body is in certain positions. Then, the doctor will cleanse the area with alcohol and use short, thin needles to provide precise treatment to your specific problem areas. Mesotherapy drugs yield instantaneous results that future treatment sessions will enhance.

Mesotherapy Recovery

With mesotherapy, it is not uncommon for patients to lose in excess of six inches of body fat after about 10 treatments, which are best spaced a week apart and take less than an hour each. Though no recovery time is necessary after mesotherapy, minor side effects such as bruising and swelling may occur, and doctors prefer to wait a week between treatments in order to accurately gauge improvement.

Mesotherapy Results

The vast majority of patients are thrilled with their mesotherapy results. While some patients see dramatic changes in their appearance after only one treatment, most patients can expect to see positive mesotherapy results after four treatments. Common mesotherapy results include overall weight loss, the firming and smoothing of skin previously dimpled by cellulite, and spot weight reduction.

The International Society of Mesotherapy has members in 14 countries throughout Europe and North and South America. Over 15,000 doctors worldwide have been producing excellent mesotherapy results for more than 50 years.
