iLASIK

LASIK surgery is one of the most popular vision correction treatments performed in the United States. In the past, and in many cases today, it is performed using a microkeratome blade to create the corneal flap during the first step of the LASIK procedure, and a manually guided excimer laser that reshapes the cornea during the second stage of the LASIK procedure. However, in the past decade, new technology has been developed that allows surgeons to more safely and effectively perform both parts of the LASIK surgery procedure. The Intralase® laser can be used to create the flap in the cornea, while the CustomVueTM LASIK system can be used to more accurately reshape the cornea and correct vision.

The Best of Both Technologies - iLASIK

The iLASIK procedure refers to LASIK surgery that is performed using both the Intralase® and CustomVueTM technologies. Each of these LASIK systems is associated with a reduced risk of complications and a higher success rate.

The Intralase® Laser

The Intralase® laser is capable of creating flaps that are precise in depth and diameter. This results in fewer flap complications and post-surgical problems.

CustomVueTM LASIK with WaveScan®

The CustomVueTM system uses WaveScan® technology to record the unique visual imperfections in each patient's eyes. This WaveScan® map is then used to guide the laser during the corneal reshaping portion of treatment. The CustomVueTM system also incorporates use of Iris Registration, automatic tracking, and automatic centering technology to ensure the laser is properly aligned during surgery and produce the most accurate results possible.

iLASIK Costs

Because iLASIK combines use of two different advanced LASIK technologies, it is more expensive than traditional LASIK. In general, iLASIK costs between $2,500 and $4,000 to have both eyes treated.
