About James Lewis, MD

Dr. James Lewis is a leading Philadelphia eye surgeon who has gained recognition for publishing an article on the placement of intraocular lenses without capsular support. His work in the field has led to his participation in FDA clinical trials for Avedro, AMO, Morcher, Moria, and Staar.

Dr. Lewis attended Princeton University and Thomas Jefferson Medical College. He completed a residency at Duke University Eye Center, where he served as chief resident during the third year of the program; at the end of the residency, Dr. Lewis was offered a faculty position at Duke University Eye Center, but he decided to go to south Australia to undergo subspecialty training in Corneal and Refractive Surgery instead. Upon his return to the states, he served as Director of Cornea and Anterior Segment Surgery at Hahnemann University and as Corneal Consultant to the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.

In 2004, Dr. Lewis became the Director of Cornea, Cataract, and Refractive Surgery for Salus University. There, he teaches courses on corneal surgery, LASIK, and cataracts to eye doctors.  Along with Joel Silbert, OD, Dr. Lewis runs the highly reputable Cornea and Contact Lens Residency at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, a program that trains the nation's top optometry students.

Dr. Lewis has lectured extensively on various topics, including microkeratome flap creation and intraocular lens insertion without capsular support. Some of the organizations he has lectured for include the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American-European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgeons, and the European Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
