Congrats Boston Bruins!

Posted on 06/17/2011 12:55:00

Riding the wave of the Boston Bruins’ Stanley Cup win, Dental Associates of New England is sticking with an athletic theme for our June blog post.

Our very own Dr. Gerald Maher, Patriots team dentist for more than two decades, has developed the innovative Maher Mouth Guard, which aids in the prevention of concussions for all athletes participating in contact sports, from professionals to youth players.

Dr. Maher’s product which is already successfully used by the New England Patriots, numerous high school and college athletic programs, individual NFL players and a number of boxing, hockey and lacrosse professionals, is beneficial to recreational athletes as well. The weekend athlete may be at an even higher risk of sports injuries because of the lack of conditioning, training and skill. Mouth guards should also be used in practices, physical education classes and some exercise programs.

New England Patriots Dentist Receives High Honors With Mike Haynes

Check out our very own Dr. Gerald Maher, as mentioned by pro football hall of famer Mike Haynes, the keynote speaker at this years Appliance Therapy Practitioners Association Symposium:

"Pro Football Hall of Famer Mike Haynes played almost his entire National Football League ("NFL") career with a secret. Having learned early on (after receiving a concussion in a game) that, as a professional athlete, he would often be expected to "play hurt,"  He took a cue from professional boxer Marvelous Marvin Hagler - who attributed his ability to take a punch to the wearing of a custom TMJ orthotic. Haynes sought out the man who fabricated Hagler's TMJ orthotic - Dr. Gerald Maher, currently the team dentist for the New England Patriots."
