New Appointment Reminder System
Posted on 04/19/2012 16:48:00
Faster and more convenient - that's the goal of Dentistry For Life's new automated appointment reminder system. But we need everyone's help. Please, please take the time to reconfirm your appointment by phone, txt, or email. Once you do, you won't get any more reminders and we'll know you've remembered your confirmed appointment. As you know, last minute cancellations and no-shows are a huge drain on any service provider and result in higher costs for everyone. Since we don't double-book, the wasted time can't be used by patients who really need to see Dr. Dubin because our schedule appears full. It's frustrating for all. And we certainly understand that legitimate emergencies do happen, but it simply isn't fair that our good patients get punished by the person who'd rather get their nails done at the last minute. So we're taking a stand to protect the conscientious and keep costs down - Thanks for helping your fellow patients!

Is There A Little "Pink" In Your Sink?
Posted on 09/22/2011 15:38:00
We all want a great, healthy smile. Who doesn't? We know we need to brush our teeth, use mouthwash to kill bacteria, and most of us floss regularly. That should be enough to keep our mouths healthy, right? Wrong. Have you ever been brushing your teeth, or flossing and seen blood in your sink? Like most people, you probably wrote it off as a simple irritation or thought you were brushing or flossing too roughly. While these explanations could be true, they are often rarely the cause of bleeding gums. According to Dr. Barry Dubin and his team of dental professionals at Dentistry For Life, bleeding gums can be a sign of a gum infection, the onset of gum disease, or other serious medical conditions. To see more about the mouth/body connection, check out this article on WebMD.

Help People Find Dentistry For Life on Google
Posted on 09/14/2011 21:00:04 If youve done any searching for a business or service using Google lately, you know that the best place for a business to appear is on the first page. Most people usually click on one of the first results that they see. So how does that listing get on the first page without advertising (those are the sponsored listing at the very top of the page)?
Well, theres a whole business out there that does nothing but help others appear on the first page of a Google search. Its called SEO or Search Engine Optimization, but even then, a business can jump way ahead of others in a few simple ways by getting a lot of reviews on Google Places, getting lots of people to like their Facebook page and having lots of links to other sites. These have to be legitimate reviews from customers of the business.
We know you love Dr. Barry Dubin and Dentistry For Life. We have over 75 five star reviews from patients just in the last 3 months. Problem is, those reviews only come

Glowing Reviews For Dentistry For Life
Posted on 06/16/2011 20:06:42 Dr. Barry Dubin's Dentistry For Life recently began giving patients the opportunity to complete a short survey about their visit and our practice once they get home. The survey, which takes just a minute to complete, is returned to us via email through a third party source so it is totally anonymous. Patients can be completely honest without worrying that Dr. Dubin will ever know who said what. For any service business, that's something of a risk to take. After all, we can't always know every interaction every patient has with all of our staff. And lets face it, some people just love to complain no matter what you do.
We are thrilled to report that Dr. Dubin, Dentistry For Life, our hygienists, and staff have gotten glowing reviews. In fact, 71% have rated us 5 stars and their visit "EXCELLENT"! Another 19% gave us "VERY GOOD" and only 8% rated us as "AVERAGE". Not a single person rated their visit as anything less than average...NO COM

Deadly Dentures
Posted on 04/26/2011 20:07:14 Here at Dentistry For Life, we see the terrible effects of the "just pull it out" mentality. Our philosophy has always been to save teeth whenever possible because dentures are just plain awful. But its worse than even we thought. It turns out your uncomfortable and ill-fitting old dentures are deadly as well. Why? Most denture adhesives contain zinc which leaches into the body causing zinc poisoning. Zinc poisoning depletes your copper levels resulting in the development of neuropathy and other neurological injuries.
The symptoms can include the following:
Numbness, Tingling or "pins and needles" sensation
Muscled Weakness
Unexplained pain
Loss of Balance
Difficulty Walking
Loss of Sensation and Paralysis
WOW! In fact, a number of lawsuits against denture adhesive manufacturers like Procter and Gamble (Fixodent) and GlaxoSmithKline (Poligrip) are being actively pursued. Check out some of these websites for details:

Healthy Gums - Healthy Body at Dr. Barry Dubin's Dental Practice
Posted on 09/23/2010 19:25:13 You probably already know that gum disease is a contributing factor to heart disease. The media has done a good job publicizing this - but did you know that the list of serious disease and health problems associated with gum disease continues to grow? Stroke; Diabetes; rheumatoid arthritis; low birthweight, pre-term, and still-born babies; upper respiratory infection; alzheimer's; and the latest - prostate disease.
Keeping your gums healthy is definitely not just about saving your teeth - increasingly we are finding out that healthy gums lead to a healthy body whereas diseased gums can kill you - or your unborn child. See this news on MSNBC In fact, did you know that increased levels of hs-CRP (high sensitivity C-reactive Protein) which is always elevated in patients with gum disease is a better indicator of your risk for heart attack, strokes, autoimmune disorders, and other maladies than almost anything else

JFK Dental Care Notified of Class Action Settlement by United Healthcare Insurance
Posted on 05/04/2010 19:56:17 If you were covered at any time from March 15, 19914 through November 18, 2009 by medical or dental insurance with United HealthCare Corporation (now known as UnitedHealth Group), Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, American Airlines, Inc. and their subsidiaries and affiliates, you may have been contacted with a Notice of Proposed Settlement of Class Action and final Settlement Hearing. These insurance companies were accused by a host of organizations including the American Medical Association and the Civil Service Employees Association of providing insufficient reimbursement by using flawed databases to determine reimbursement amounts and by using internal policies to reduce reimbursement and of inadequately disclosing these methods.
JFK Dental Care has been notified that the involved companies have proposed a settlement rather than have the case go further in the court system. The courts must approve their proposal which includes a cash set

Winner of the iPod Nano
Posted on 03/29/2010 21:26:00 We had lots of great referrals from equally great patients, but only one could win. JFK Dental Care patient Mia was the final winner. She received a shiny new purple iPod Nano in appreciation of sending patients to Dr. Barry Dubin and Dr. Shimma. If you are currently a patient at JFK Dental Care, you could win something too. Just look for our next patient referral contest. And even when there's no contest going on, JFK Dental Care always has a great referral program. It's a tiered program where you get a small gift and small account credit on your first referral - a larger one for the next - and so on, right on up to 10 patients referred gets you a free Power Whitening. Thats a $1200 value, just for telling other people just like you where they

Invisalign Express at JFK Dental Care
Posted on 03/03/2010 23:52:30 Did you know that Invisalign offers very fast and simple movement for your front teeth in as little time as 6 months? Here at JFK Dental Care, Dr. Barry Dubin and Dr. Shimma Abdulla can create a beautiful smile in no time even if you have some gaps or crooked front teeth. Invisalign recognized that many patients don't want to expend the time and expense of full blown orthodontics to move all of your teeth so that you have a perfect bite. Your teeth would then fit together like a set of gears.
This is the ideal, but many adults have gotten used to their slightly off bite and it doesn't affect function much. We get the question, "Can't you just make my smile look good?" And the answer is "of course." The cost is very reasonable at around $3500 - much less than the fee for a full Invisalign case or braces

Snap-on Smile Still a Popular Choice at JFK Dental Care
Posted on 02/24/2010 19:17:40 After ABC local channel 6 featured Dr. Barry Dubin and JFK Dental Care on a health segment about Snap-on Smile, we received many calls and emails from people who couldn't wait to find out if this fantastic new dental appliance was right for them. That was way back in December, but surprisingly, we are still getting almost as many calls 2 months later. It was news that resonated with a large population of the public. It just goes to show that lots of people are really unhappy with their teeth - or lack thereof.
Snap-on Smile is a dental appliance that can be worn right over your existing and missing teeth. It is made of a thin plastic material that "snaps" securely on over whatever teeth you have. Obviously, people without any teeth at all cannot wear it but it is great for those who currently have a removeable partial denture to replace some missing teeth. Snap-on

Sad News from JFK Dental Care
Posted on 02/03/2010 22:46:03 It is with great sadness that I report the passing of Dr. Barry Dubin and Dianne's beloved little poodle, Teddy on January 7. For 15 years, Teddy was a fixture in the JFK Dental Care offices. It was only in the last 3 years, (yes, folks, he was 18) that he had gotten too old to greet Dr. Dubin's patients. Many of our patients knew and loved Teddy. They brought him toys and treats and gave him lots of attention. Dr. Dubin and Dianne report that he was the best dog ever and was truly Dianne's shadow. He will be greatly missed.
Even in death, Teddy is helping our patients. He died of ORAL CANCER! So we hope this will be a reminder to all of our patients of the importance of having yearly check-ups at JFK Dental Care for this deadly disease. We have a simple test called Vizilite

Dr. Barry Dubin featured on ABC TV with Snap-On-Smile
Posted on 12/23/2009 23:03:50 Dr. Barry Dubin of JFK Dental Care was the subject of a Special Report that aired on the local 11:00 pm news on ABC TV, Channel 6 on Monday night, December, 21, 2009. The report covered one of our patients, Marcella Crawley, getting a Snap-On-Smile, the revolutionary new way to get a beautiful smile without braces or extensive dental work.
A reporter from Channel 6 approached Dr. Dubin back in the summer about this new technique. Apparently, she had received some press releases about Snap-On-Smile and thought it would make an interesting story and provide viewers with valuable and useful information. She then contacted the makers of Snap-On-Smile to find out what dentists in the Delaware Valley were experienced in th

Local Center City Philadelphia Dentist, Dr. Barry Dubin, Announces New Patient-Centered Staffing
Posted on 11/23/2009 21:10:56 Local Center City Philadelphia dentist, Dr. Barry Dubin, announces a new Patient-Centered staffing model at his practice at 1829 JFK Blvd. If you are one of our current patients, you will notice a difference in the staff that you see. The old staffing model and that used by most other dental practices assigns staff to specific tasks that need to be done within the practice: A "Receptionist" answers the phone; a "Scheduler" makes your appointments; a "Finance Manager" takes your payments; a "Dental Assistant" helps the dentist; and a "hygienist" cleans your teeth and takes care of your gums. In this old model, everything revolves around the office and the jobs that need to be done for the practice. This is obviously a PRACTICE centered model, and you - the patient - may see 6 or 7 different people in one visit and totally different people on your next visit. With so many hands i
