In 1984 Dr. Hoopes established the Eye Center of Kansas City in overland Park, Kansas. His practice rapidly grew and became one of the largest and most respected eye surgical practices in the Midwest. Performing over 3,000 surgical procedures a year, Dr. Hoopes received referrals from over 300 optometrists and ophthalmologists. Dr. Hoopes was among the first surgeons in the country to perform the LASIK procedure and his practice in Kansas City was involved in the FDA clinical trials for both Laser Vision Correction and Intacts Corneal Rings. Dr. Hoopes has performed tens of thousands of vision correction procedures during his career.
January 2000, Dr. Hoopes returned to his home state of Utah to open the Hoopes Vision Correction Center. This ultramodern 20,000 square foot facility is equipped with two state-of-the-art laser suites, a research center, a patient education center and a freestanding ambulatory surgical center. It is regarded as one of the finest such centers in the country and is outfitted with the latest and most technologically advanced instrumentation and equipment.
Doctors
Dr. Phillip C. Hoopes graduated from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 1976 with both an MD and Master's degree. He completed his eye surgery training at the prestigious University of Iowa Eye Center. Following his residency, Dr. Hoopes did fellowship training in cataract, implant, and laser surgery in Savannah, Georgia, and was a member of the Massachusetts Eye and ear Infirmary of Harvard University. In 1984, Dr. Hoopes moved to the Kansas City area where he established The Eye Center of Kansas City in Overland Park, Kansas. His practice grew rapidly and became one of the largest and most respected eye surgical practices in the Midwest. Performing over 3000 surgical procedures a year. Dr. Hoopes received referrals from throughout the United States as well as foreign countries.
Dr. Hoopes has been performing refractive surgery since 1983 and was the second Midwest surgeon to perform radial keratotomy. He helped pioneer astigmatism surgery and designed instrumentation still in use today. His practice was involved in the development and testing of excimer laser eye surgery and performed many of the FDA clinical trials that led to the procedure being approved. The first official refractive laser procedure after FDA approval was actually performed at his center. Dr. Hoopes performed the first Summit Technology laser procedure for myopia and astigmatism after FDA approval on March 16, 1998. Dr. Hoopes has over 17 years experience performing refractive surgery and has completed over 15,000 refractive and excimer laser procedures and over 32,000 vision correction surgeries.
In 2000, Dr. Hoopes relocated his practice to his home state of Utah where he opened the Hoopes Vision Correction Center in Sandy, Utah. This ultramodern 20,000 square foot facility is equipped with its own free-standing two operating room ambulatory surgery center as well as an excimer laser and research center. It houses the new Bausch & Lomb Technolas 217 laser which is considered the very best and most utilized laser in the world. This facility is regarded as one of the finest such centers in the country and is outfitted with the latest and most technologically advanced instrumentation and equipment. Dr. Hoopes travels and teaches on a regular basis and trains other surgeons who visit his clinic.
