About Our Eye Care Practice
Emil William Chynn, MD was the 1st LASIK surgeon in NYC to get LASIK himself, but switched his entire practice to the non-cutting LASEK because it's 10x safer. He is a board-certified ophthalmologist and received his MD from Columbia University. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Massachusetts Ear and Eye Infirmary of Harvard University--perhaps the most famous ophthalmology institute in the world where he was one of the teaching faculty of Harvard Medical School. He then spent an extra optional year completing a year Fellowship in Refractive Surgery at Emory University, under George Waring, MD, who pioneered RK in the US.
Dr. Chynn has performed more than 15,000 procedures without a major complication. He performs exclusively the no-cut, no-flap; all laser LASEK and epi-LASEK procedures. These newer procedures are safer and provide better vision than the old-fashioned, more common cutting LASIK procedure. To determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure, Dr. Chynn will perform a 10-point complimentary consultation.
Unlike many centers in NYC, all patients are only examined by medical doctors for all their pre-operative and post-operative visits. We are one of the few centers in NYC where not only did the entire staff has had laser eye procedure (in their cases, the more modern and safe bladeless LASEK), but are all now seeing 20/20! Because of both their professional background and their personal experience as laser vision correction patients themselves, our entire staff is the most knowledgeable and sympathetic you will find anywhere.
