Coming up on this February edition of DocShop TV!

"I can see clearly now…the haze is gone!”

This familiar face in Hollywood has seen the light when it comes to implantable contact lenses.

The Rumor Patrol is on the move----investigating an outrageous rumor about pregnant starlets.

And it’s the month for lovers---

"I look forward to getting dressed… and undressed. I look forward to the show each and every day."

How plastic surgery has this couple giggling all the way to the ………..well, you know.

DocShop TV starts right now!

Hello and welcome to this edition of DocShop TV---for February 2008.

We begin with our DocShop 411 segment---with the latest health news making headlines this month.

Up first----much of the U-S has been fighting cold weather---and to make matters worse---many are fighting colds…and the flu.

Here are some facts about the flu season you may not be aware of:

In the U-S there are between 25-and-50 million cases of the flu reported every year. That leads to as many as 150-thousand people being hospitalized every year----and believe it or not---statistics show as many as 30-to-40 thousand people die every year from influenza.

Expand those numbers out worldwide and the numbers are staggering.

There’s approximately a billion cases of the flu---

Between 3-and-5 million cases that are considered severe—and between 300-thousand to 500-thousand deaths per year that are flu related.

If you get the flu---here’s a tip that may help you feel a whole lot better. Grapefruit seed extract, or GSE is a broad spectrum natural antibiotic that’s capable of killing a wide variety of bacteria and viruses. It’s non-toxic and can be administered for up to several months without any side effects.

Taking GSE---along with getting plenty of rest, fluids, and a healthy diet can help get you back on your feet in no time.

DocShop 411 continues now with a story that’s appropriate during this month where many couples celebrate Valentine's Day.

The mental and physical benefits of having sex have been well documented—in fact some studies have shown a link between regular sexual activity to a reduced risk of prostate cancer, a better outlook on life, and better overall fitness.

Now there’s word that daily sexual activity may increase the strength and quality of sperm.

A doctor in Sydney, Australia, conducted a study on 42 men with genetically damaged sperm. The sperm was first tested after the men didn’t have sex for 3 days. The sperm continued to show high levels of genetic damage.

Here’s the good news: after having regular sex for a week, 80-percent of the study’s participants showed a definite improvement of the quality of their sperm.

This may obviously be very helpful for couples looking to improve their odds of having a child.

For more information on this story---you can read DocShop writer Andrew Weatherford’s article called, “Daily Sex for Stronger Sperm” right now, on docshop.com.

Of course to speak with a qualified fertility doctor in your state---

Our Valentine's Theme continues now with the stories of two couples, one in Seattle and one in Baltimore, who are now viewing life very differently after having plastic surgery performed by qualified plastic surgeons. One couple is now enjoying a renewed intimacy together. The other had to get out the calendar and decide who was going to go first!

Take a look.

From the wedding altar to altering their looks – a growing number of couples are turning back the clock with plastic surgery.

"We had been talking about it as a couple anyway before the procedure… he wanted to get this done… his eyes."

This Seattle-area couple kept their doctor’s hands full.

After she recovered from "her" surgery, it was time for "him" to go under the knife.

It’s a story that doctor Jourdan Gottlieb says is becoming more common.

"It may be since plastic surgery has become more acceptable to men that they’ll consider procedures on themselves… although it’s their wives that began their consultation."

"I think, maybe for men that were thinking of having this done, there’s a seed now that yeah, this is a doable deal."

Doctor Gottlieb also says that couples usually ask for “matching” procedures.

"It’s very common in senior patients who are having facial rejuvenation procedures for the spouse to have a similar procedure… face or eyelids. In younger patients it’s more common if the woman’s coming in for breast implants for the man to be asking about liposuction."

Plastic surgery can benefit couples in another way.

The new look on the outside leads to more confidence on the inside.

And for this Baltimore-area couple—that means more sizzle in their relationship.

"Before, with gaining the weight and losing the weight – having loose skin – I didn’t feel as good about my outward appearance. After the surgery… I’m pleased. I look forward to getting dressed… and undressed. I look forward to the show each and every day."

Still to come on DocShop TV----

Our Rumor Patrol has a full head of steam---and all over the latest rumor about the post pregnancy slim down methods of celebrity moms----you won’t believe this one.

Plus----

"A whole new world!!"

Seeing is believing------the implantable contact lenses that worked for this Hollywood actor/comedian----might be just what the doctor ordered for you as well.

DocShop TV is back in a flash.

As we’ve shown you—tummy tucks---or plastic surgery of any kind can be beneficial in a number of ways---but there are rumors out there flying hot and heavy about the lengths some celebrity moms will go to, to look good and in shape immediately after pregnancy.

One way is known as the C-tuck.

Sounds like the perfect topic for our Rumor Patrol gang---to get to the bottom of the rumors running amok in the world of plastic surgery.

DocShop’s Angelique Frame reports.

Rumor has it----some celebrity moms-to-be are scheduling C-sections during their 8th

month of pregnancy to avoid the extra weight that occurs during the 9th month of pregnancy.

The rumor doesn’t stop there. Word is—some starlets are also undergoing tummy tucks immediately after the delivery to try to trim off some of that excess skin and keep the stretch marks out of the sight of the ever present papparazzi!

Sound too loopy or narcissistic even for Hollywood?

The so-called “C-tuck” post pregnancy weight loss and keep-your-shape plan doesn’t sit well with much of the general public---or even many of those who perform plastic surgery every day.

"I would not recommend people undergo a C-section and tummy tuck in combination because I think it leads to more surgery than is necessary with a higher risk of infection than is appropriate.”

Dr. Scott Miller is a board certified plastic surgeon not far from Hollywood in La Jolla, California. He says in addition to the risk of infection---there are other reasons the “super slim down combo surgery technique” doesn’t make sense.

"There’s a lot of skin shrinkage that’s going to occur when the baby’s out. So in many cases what you’d be doing is you’d be cutting out and tucking a lot of tissue that was going to shrink all by itself.”

“When you tuck tissue, the price you pay is having a scar, and the less tissue you have to tuck, the shorter that scar can be.”

“Having a C-section involves a post operative recovery and the limitation of activities that would be counterproductive to getting back into shape as fast as you can”

We haven’t been able to find one celebrity who has gone on record saying they’ve had or even considered the C-tuck. Ego and looks aside---there’s probably another reason you may never hear of such a surgery being performed in a credible plastic surgery center.

“Most OB-GYNs won’t do that without an amniocentesis which is an extra procedure and puts the child at risk so I think that’s very, very uncommon.”

From celebrity mom’s-to-be to housewives in middle America---what’s the best advice to shape up after birth?

"The best thing you can do to control weight gain during your pregnancy is with appropriate exercise, followed by getting back to your exercise program soon after the pregnancy.”

So------- consider this rumor---------

Just that.

For DocShop TV, I’m Angelique Frame.

Thanks Angelique. Still to come----a recognizable face from Hollywood---who now can see for himself exactly what he’s been missing. Back to wrap it up after this.

In 2005, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the Visian ICL (implantable collamer lens) for the reduction and treatment of nearsightedness (myopia).

Welcome back. Believe it or not a lot of people go through life not knowing what they’re missing because they can’t see like they think they can.

That’s certainly been the case for actor/comedian/and rapper Christopher Reid.

He used to have horrible vision---but thanks to an implantable contact lenses called the Visian I-C-L by Starr Surgical, bad eyesight is a thing of the past.

“My name is Christopher Reid and I’m here for the ICL surgery.”

“I’ve chosen to have this surgery because I have really bad eyesight, I mean, really bad!”

"For the last many, many years I’ve been wearing contact lenses and I was just a little bit concerned over the years that the damage the contact lenses might be doing to my eyes and my eyes are so bad that glasses aren’t really an option, you know, in my profession, you know, and ladies don't really be diggin' the coke bottles--not unless you're a scientist---but I'm not a scientist---yet."

"You know, there were other surgery options that were discussed and were considered, after having spoken to the doctor I realized that LASIK in and of itself didn’t really suit me…and a lot of that had to do with the fact that my eyesight was “that’ bad."

"One of the reasons we began to discuss the ICL was that it seemed better suited---and also it was my understanding that you know worse case scenario…if it doesn’t work it's reversible as opposed to the LASIK, you know, they're in there working, fine, if they're not, they're out, and at the very least you're back to square one...you're back to where you were."

"You know with the LASIK, I think once that procedure, once they burn off whatever they want to burn off, you know, it’s gone.

"I felt more comfortable with it, i felt like it gave us a way out if something didn't go the way we anticipated, if it didn't work out or if it didn't fit or if it didn't agree with these big old eyes!"

"I had an opportunity to speak with a young lady who had just gotten the surgery like ten minutes previous…so I had a chance to speak with her at length…and right before I came in here I spoke with another young man who had just gotten the surgery, and you know I just got a great vibe off of them, they’re very pleased with it. I was here yesterday, actually, picking up some eye drops and there was another lady who recently had it and was just marveling at her improved eyesight, and you know I’d love an opportunity to experience that!”

"My expectations….coming out of surgery, well, you know, five minutes out I want to be able to read the Declaration of Independence from some guy sitting on top of the Hollywood sign up there! Haha"

“Yeah, I’m feeling great….post op…I was able to see immediately after the operation, I could actually look up and see the doctor clearly, you know read the clock on the wall, read stuff on the wall that I prior would have a very difficult time doing that.”

“You know the procedures take such a short time that you know before you know it it’s over. You know I think that’s another thing that people should probably know and learn about the surgery I think it was one of the more appealing parts of it, you know, it’s quick. You know you’re not knocked out for hours.

“Before I knew it the doctor’s like, you did great it’s over!”

"We're happy, I can see clearly now the haze is gone!"

"A whole new world!!"

“My eyesight is incredible. I’m seeing things I haven’t seen in years…distance, reading…

I didn’t like driving at night a whole lot and invariably I end up having to, you know being an entertainer or if I’m doing a standup gig somewhere.”

“I would have trouble seeing signs, having to be virtually right underneath or right near the sign or order to see something, you know it’s pretty dangerous if you have to get off on an exit so those problems just simply don’t exist anymore.

"Its been pretty amazing…I mean that’s the one thing I can describe, I mean I even kind of test myself and I look across the room and see if I can read something, and these are things that I know that even through contact lenses or wearing glasses years ago I wouldn’t be able to see and read, so it’s kind of, it’s uh, pretty amazing.”

"You just see the difference and feel the difference immediately….you wake up and if I’m laying down on the couch watching television you know I see every aspect of what’s on television now, I mean I watch a lot of CNN so you know they always got a lot of stuff going, it’s crawling on the bottom and if I’m watching SportsCenter, you know they got stuff on the side they got stuff on the bottom, and I can recall in years past you know sometimes you got to get up and squint or look over here and really lean up toward the television in order to see some of these things but that just doesn’t exist anymore and the way they specifically kind of calibrated the lenses in my eye you know this one for distance, this one for reading, I mean I can go from looking at something at a distance to just reading the smallest print you know right in front of me at a very comfortable distance and that’s just not something that I was able to do before.”

"I had no idea what I was missing you know, colors and just the peripheral vision and distance and reading stuff, know what I mean? I feel like I got a pair of brand new eyes, which I guess, technically, I do!"

"Literally the quality of my life has kind of improved in the last week and a half and I'm pretty excited....and I'm at the point now the doctor says I can kind of get back to everything that I normally do, I can get back to working out, I can back to doing just doing everything that I'm used to doing."

I had no problem putting Visian lenses in my eye…and if I’m living proof that it works, so be it. I mean it’s working for me wonderfully!”

"You know I feel like I have a whole new lease on life, man, 'a whole new world!' Thank you!”
