Unwrap them.

Lick 'em up.

“It’s good actually.”

And chomp away those unwanted pounds! That’s the promise of this 28 calorie---4 carb---diet on a stick called Power Pops.

They’ve been featured on 60-minutes, the TV show Extra, and many national publications.

Here’s the deal: the lollipops are said to be made from all natural ingredients—with the key ingredient being---Hoodia----an african herb---that is widely touted as being the best appetite suppressant on the market.

Some argue---Hoodia---- combined with the fact that users are urged to drink a full glass of water before and after eating a sucker and 30-minutes before a meal---might explain the feeling that the stomach is full!

“It’s really a great marketing gimmick. The idea is any fiber-based product mixed with water is going to expand in the stomach, and make you have more of a sensation of being more full, and that’s what Hoodia does.”

“I feel like I want some more water! Hahahahaha”

"I think if it curbs the appetite or gives energy without having to eat then that’s probably helpful for losing weight."

The diet lollipops, are not only supposed to take your hunger away—but also provide a boost of energy---and taste great.

We took a bag of these multi-flavored pops around the DocShop office to get the real skinny on just how tasty these so-called weight loss wonders really are.

“I thought it was interesting it had kind of an interesting texture to it—a little different than like a Tootsie Pop or something.”

"It just kind of had a grainy after taste but it wasn’t too bad”

“I ate it, I feel kind of queezy right now---but that’s better than feeling hungry!"

“It actually was better than I had expected, I had the cappuccino flavor didn’t taste bad at all.”

“I had pink lemonade and it’s really good actually.”

“I had green apple and it tastes pretty good it’s kind of like a jolly rancher with a little extra texture to it.”

Taste and texture aside---do they work? Some people swear by them---others not so much. Celebrities like Britney Spears are said to have dabbled in the diet lollipop craze---and if you go to just about any website that features them ---you’ll see testimonials galore.

But the experts say a diet that features Hoodia---or any other type of ingredient that takes hunger away---can often be a short term fix---not a long term solution.

“A lot of times people get used to that appetite suppressant and then they go back to their regular eating patterns and actually can start increasing, increasing, and increasing from there.”

It’s important to note---that while these diet lollipops that can cost as much as five bucks for a bag of four-- are said to be safe and effective---they are not FDA approved. While that doesn’t concern everyone---it may force others to consider more traditional weight loss methods.

"If you just took 72 hours and reduced your consumption for 72 hours, you could shrink your stomach down anyhow. I think just eating right—and maybe smaller portions—will probably help.”

"I think that I’m more likely to lose weight simply by watching what I eat and dieting, that’s what I’m trying right now. Frankly I’m not going to pay 5 dollars for four pops to find out.”

So what’s the final word on the lollipop diet? Our nutritional expert leaves you with her final thoughts.

“I’d say good luck. Good luck and you know, I don’t know, lick it up!”
