For Steve Schadt, years of teeth grinding had resulted in short, worn down front teeth…and a smile he just wasn’t happy about.

So Steve decided to seek out professional help – in the form of Chicago cosmetic dentist, Dr. Sheldon Seidman.

“Hi Steve, I’m Dr. Seidman…nice to meet you”

During the initial consultation, Dr. Seidman talked to Steve about his cosmetic dentistry goals, answered his questions, and examined his teeth – he then recommended a treatment plan.

“We need to touch a few more teeth than just the front teeth…”

Appointment two was dedicated to prep. Dr. Seidman removed a thin layer of tooth enamel – making room for a layer of porcelain to be placed over the existing tooth structure.

With prep complete, it was time for Steve’s new porcelain veneers to be crafted just for his smile. So Steve went home wearing a set of temporaries and Dr. Seidman sent information about his case and models to the MAC dental laboratory in Northern California.

MAC technician Rocksand Grogan took over from there.

Once complete, the custom veneers were sent back to Dr. Seidman – and Steve returned for his third and final appointment - to get the permanent veneers placed on his teeth.

“Well, Steve, you’re all set – I think your case went well”

Rocksand says Dr. Seidman’s experience combined with the top-notch materials and quality lab used helped make this a successful case.

If you’re considering porcelain veneers, here are a few things to keep in mind:

Research cosmetic dentists carefully. Make sure you choose a dentist who stays up-to-date on the latest techniques for placing porcelain veneers.

Check out before and after pictures so you can see some of a dentist’s previous work.

Explore your financing options. Though the cost of porcelain veneers may seem too high for your budget, many dentists offer low interest financing options to help you pay for the procedure.

And finally - if you decide to undergo treatment, listen to your dentist’s recommendations. Though you may want to get veneers on just your front teeth, getting restorative work done on some of your back teeth may improve function of your mouth – and help your veneers last longer.

As for Steve, he says he’s thrilled with his results.

“It’s an incredible change, especially when you find yourself used to it. I don’t know how to describe it – it’s amazing.”
