Welcome to DocShop's Patient Education Page devoted to ICL's, or Implantable Contact Lenses.
Working much the same way that traditional contacts do, ICL's are placed directly inside the eye and can offer a permanent improvement in vision.
Placed behind the iris and in front of the natural lens, these thin lenses can be an alternative for patients who are not candidates for laser vision correction treatments such as LASIK.
ICL's can also correct conditions that LASIK may be unable to, such as extreme nearsightedness. And, unlike LASIK, the procedure is completely reversible.
The ICL procedure has a 95 percent success rate and is virtually painless.
Candidates for ICL's are typically between the ages of 21 and 45, with moderate to severe nearsightedness.
