Welcome to DocShop's Patient Education Page devoted to LASIK candidacy.
So… what makes a good LASIK Candidate?
When you meet with your ophthalmologist, you'll have a thorough examination to ensure that you meet the general requisites and conditions required to undergo LASIK surgery.
Some of the guidelines considered for candidacy are: stable vision for at least one year; no eye injury or injection for at least a year; no autoimmune disorders, such as Lupus or Sjogren's Syndrome; and patients who understand the risks of LASIK and have realistic expectations for results.
Ideal LASIK candidates are at least 18 years old, and a LASIK candidate can not be pregnant or nursing on the date of surgery.
Most importantly, you must meet with an experienced ophthalmologist and undergo an examination to determine if you are a LASIK candidate.
