Welcome to DocShop's Patient Education Page devoted to preparing for LASIK vision correction.
Once you've researched physicians and decided on a qualified, experienced surgeon, preparation for LASIK begins in the examination room. Your doctor will take a thorough eye history and give you an eye exam to determine if you are a good candidate for LASIK.
With Custom LASIK, your LASIK surgeon will also create a map of your eye that will be used during the treatment in order to provide a precise measurement of the corneal tissue that will be removed.
In the weeks prior to LASIK surgery, contact lenses should not be worn.
The day before and the day of surgery, patients should not use makeup, lotions, and other cosmetics that may cause debris to get into the eye.
Details of the procedure and the answers to questions you may have will be gone over again on the day of surgery, and an anesthetic and any necessary anti-anxiety medication will be provided before the LASIK surgeon begins the laser treatment.
