Welcome to DocShop's Patient Education Page devoted to LASIK Surgery Statistics.
An important part of researching what LASIK laser eye surgery can do for you is finding out some of the numbers involved.
The LASIK vision correction procedure is performed on more than one million individuals each year.
The Food and Drug Administration says complications from LASIK surgery occur in one-to-five percent of cases. The F-D-A reports three percent of patients say their vision is worse than before the LASIK procedure; three-point-five percent of patients experience halo effects around light sources; two-point-six percent report visual fluctuations; and one-point-seven percent of LASIK patients experience glare and sensitivity to light.
A recent study by the American association of Professional Eyecare Specialists reports that 55-point-three percent of patient have twenty-twenty vision or better after LASIK surgery, and 92-point-six percent of individuals have twenty-forty or better. Other statistical resources average the percentage of twenty-twenty vision after LASIK at closer to 85 percent.
Be sure to talk with your qualified LASIK surgeon about his or her own personal LASIK surgery statistics and the average results of patients.
