Welcome to DocShop's Patient Education Page devoted to PRK Eye Surgery.
Photorefractive Keratectomy, or PRK, corrects vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism by using a laser to reshape the eye's cornea.
Although it sounds similar to LASIK, the PRK procedure is performed differently and may serve as an alternative for patients who do not fulfill LASIK candidacy requirements.
PRK and LASIK both produce similar vision correction results; however, recovery from PRK can take a bit longer than LASIK.
Most patients say PRK is pain-free, and any discomfort patients may feel after the procedure can be alleviated with eye drops, pain medication, and protective contact lenses.
For more information on PRK, consult our Patient Education page, or you can find a physician near you who offers the procedure by clicking "find a doctor in your area" to speak with someone who can discuss PRK with you.
