Cosmetic Surgery: You Don't Have to be Rich or Famous, but You Can Feel Like You Are!
Cosmetic surgery, once a luxury reserved for the rich and famous, is now readily available to anyone striving to look their very best. Just like working out at the gym, relaxing at a spa, or visiting the dentist, seeing a plastic surgeon has become customary for many people. Americans spent more than $12 billion last year on cosmetic procedures, suggesting that, while looks aren’t everything, they are clearly important to many people. Last year, more than three million Americans reduced stress and aging lines with a BOTOX â treatment, and more than 1.6 million were treated with a filler like Restylane â or Juvederm â. More than 11 million cosmetic procedures were performed in the United States in 2006, according to statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). This represents a whopping 446 percent increase over the last 10 years. The most in-demand treatment is BOTOX â Cosmetic. The most popular surgery is liposuction.
Across the globe, people are doing whatever they can to look and feel young and attractive. From our choice of hairstyle to the designer clothes we wear and the type of car we drive, we compete in a world that rewards beauty. Whether right or wrong, employers, prospective mates, and others recognize and respond to those who look the best. Promotions and pay increases are often given to the more attractive person. Fortunately, there is a secret weapon for those who wish to even their odds, thanks to the increased availability, safety, and convenience of cosmetic surgery. Most procedures do not even require an overnight stay in a hospital. Seventy-four percent of all cosmetic surgeries are performed on an outpatient basis in an office facility or surgicenter. Likewise, recent advancements in technology allow for drastically shorter recovery times.
In addition, an increasing number of people are not waiting until they are older to improve their appearance through cosmetic treatments. Sixty-seven percent of the procedures performed last year were on patients under fifty. Through such treatments as BOTOX â Cosmetic, Restylane â, Juvederm â, and laser therapy, patients can make their lips pop or reduce unwanted wrinkles in as little as an hour. Is it any wonder that so many people around you are looking young and attractive regardless of their age? Now you know why they say that forty is the new thirty.
Going to the gym, eating right, getting adequate sleep, and thinking positively are all essential for well-being, but dramatic physical changes are often achievable only through cosmetic surgery. A little fine tuning from a qualified plastic surgeon can have a tremendous effect on a person’s confidence and happiness. Shaping or straightening a large nose to complement the face, reducing acne, removing fine lines around the eyes, or shaping the brows can tremendously lift self-esteem. Brightening tired eyes or removing dark circles can have a wonderful rejuvenating effect, changing the way you see yourself and how others see you. Liposcultpure to shape the legs or liposuction to improve the body’s contours can be done in a simple office visit.
And it is perfectly acceptable to get a little help. In fact, it is very likely you or someone you know has already had plastic surgery. In a recent study of over 56,000 people, more than 70 percent of the women surveyed were thinking about having cosmetic surgery. More than 383,500 women opted to improve their self-image with a breast enhancement last year alone. The results can be life affirming. Many surgeons find it truly inspiring to share in the joy of a patient viewing his or her before-and-after photos after body contouring surgery to tighten and restore loose skin and muscles. And it is equally incredible to witness the resulting boost in the self-confidence of such a patient, both at home and at work.
With television shows such as Nip/Tuck, Dr. 90210, The Swan, and Extreme Makeover popularizing plastic surgery, we have the opportunity to witness such transformations every day. We see our neighbors enjoying the revitalizing benefits of increased self-esteem and confidence. Many people are undergoing cosmetic procedures because looking young, vibrant, and energized has never been more affordable. Most people use a credit card or money they would have spent on a vacation and then return to work looking even better rested and renewed than a holiday would have left them. And the results last much longer!
