Five Most Popular Non-Surgical Cosmetic Procedures

Non-surgical cosmetic rejuvenation is becoming more popular than ever as women and men alike are seeking out the quickest and most convenient ways to improve their appearance. Known as "lunchtime makeovers," non-surgical cosmetic treatments can help hydrate, tone, refresh, and rejuvenate skin in as little as an hour.

Wrinkles Treatments and Hair Removal Top the List

According to 2007 data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the five most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatments are BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, cosmetic dermal fillers, chemical peels, laser hair removal, and microdermabrasion.

More than 4.6 million Americans underwent BOTOX® treatment in 2007, and BOTOX® Cosmetic ranks as the most popular non-surgical treatment among both men and women.

Trends in Non-surgical Cosmetic Enhancement

One of the growing trends in non-surgical cosmetic rejuvenation is the shift toward longer lasting dermal fillers. Currently the second most popular non-surgical treatment available, hyaluronic acid-based fillers (including Restylane®, Juvederm®, and Hylaform®) are taking the market by storm. These long-lasting fillers can be used for a variety of purposes, from lip augmentation to filling in fine lines and wrinkles near the lips and eyes, and provide more bang for the buck, with results that last for as long as a year.

Top Non-surgical Cosmetic Procedures by Age

According to ASPS data, the five most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures by age are as follows (in order):

Ages 13 to 19: laser hair removal, laser leg vein treatment, laser skin resurfacing, microdermabrasion, and BOTOX® injections.

Ages 20 to 39: laser hair removal, BOTOX® injections, microdermabrasion, laser leg vein treatment, and sclerotherapy.

Ages 40 to 55(+): BOTOX® injections, hyaluronic acid injections, chemical peel, microdermabrasion, and laser hair removal.

Nearly 10 million men and women underwent some form of non-surgical cosmetic rejuvenation in 2007 alone. If you are interested in non-surgical treatment, consult a dermatologist or plastic surgeon to find out which treatment is right for you.
