50 Cent's New Grill

Curtis James Jackson, III, more commonly known as 50 Cent, is an American rapper who rose to fame in 2003 following the production of his album Get Rich or Die Tryin'. The rapper is no stranger to controversy, having famously battled with some of the biggest names in hip hop, including Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, and Wyclef Jean. In his early years, he sold drugs and was arrested on multiple occasions; now he is one of the most popular figures in the music industry. His debut album sold 15 million copies worldwide and was a major factor in his ranking as the sixth best artist of the decade in 2009 by Billboard magazine. While 50 Cent has done his best to maintain a hard attitude, he has invested in softening his looks by undergoing cosmetic dentistry.

A $63,000 Smile

While growing up in a rough neighborhood in Queens, New York, the last thing that 50 Cent was concerned about was the appearance of his teeth. Yet 50 Cent was no stranger to oral health problems. In March of 2000, the rapper was shot eight times, including twice in the mouth. This caused him to lose one of his wisdom teeth, and develop a lisp. As the rapper rose to fame and began making millions of dollars a year, he decided to upgrade his smile, while still keeping his own style. In early pictures of 50 Cent, his front teeth have a noticeable gap and appear significantly larger than the rest of his teeth. In fact, some people in the music industry even referred to 50 Cent as having "bugs bunny" teeth.

In January of 2008, 50 Cent debuted his new smile at the Sundance Film Festival during a performance at TAO nightclub. The porcelain veneers that the rapper received completely eliminated the gap between his front teeth and brightened his smile. Although his front teeth were still a bit larger, the smile makeover completely transformed 50 Cent's look. In 2008, he admitted that he kept his front teeth larger on purpose because he felt it was a part of his signature look.

"I told [the dentist] to leave [my front teeth] a little bigger than the other ones, because I need to still see me when I look in the mirror," he said.

During the same radio interview with New York's Power 105.1, 50 Cent also divulged that his new smile cost a whopping $63,000. He even taunted rival rappers by stating that his teeth were worth more than their cars. Fortunately for most individuals, the cost of porcelain veneers can be much cheaper.

Gum Recontouring

During the process of receiving porcelain veneers, it is likely that 50 Cent also had some gum recontouring done. In early photos of the rapper, his gums are especially prominent when he smiled. However, following his cosmetic dentistry procedures, they are significantly less noticeable. In addition, it is likely that the rapper underwent some restorative dentistry to treat the oral health problems associated with his 2000 shooting. While 50 Cent received flak from fellow artists in the rap industry for updating his look, the end result of his procedures tremendously improved his appearance.
