A Facelift Can Enhance Your Appearance and Your Confidence
Achieve a More Youthful Look
By removing excess skin and smoothing wrinkles resulting from sun damage or other factors, your doctor can address the telltale signs of aging that cause you to look tired or unhealthy.
Improve Facial Definition
By tightening underlying facial muscles and making other refinements, your doctor can improve your contours, including the jawline, for restored facial definition.
Increase Your Self-Esteem
A facelift can turn back the hands of time. The procedure can help you look younger, healthier, and more rested, often providing a renewed sense of self-confidence.
So how do different types of facelifts work?

What specific concerns can a facelift address?
Treatment Can Improve Several Signs of Aging
Facelifts are the only way to correct substantially lax skin.
Wrinkles on the brow or between the nose and mouth can be minimized with a facelift.
Loss of Definition
Surgery can restore definition to the jawline or lift the cheeks.
Special Considerations for Facelifts after Massive Weight Loss
Losing a significant amount of weight often leaves patients with sagging skin in their face and neck. After working so hard to lose the weight, being left with a "droopy" face or "turkey neck" can be incredibly disappointing.
When performed by a skilled surgeon, a facelift can effectively address these issues. Most patients who have achieved massive weight loss will need more fat augmentation, increased tightening in the cheeks and neck, and more intensive elevation of the muscles to achieve the same results as a typical facelift patient.

Understanding Your Facelift Candidacy
Treatment targets the face and neck. It is only recommended for substantial signs of aging.
While most patients can qualify, the best results require some degree of skin elasticity.
Nicotine compromises healing, so complications are more common for smokers.
It can help you look rested and refreshed, but it cannot make you look like a teenager.
Even if I qualify, I need to know what kind of investment I'm making...
Aren't Facelifts Expensive?
In 2017, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reported that the average cost of a facelift was $7,562. The cost of surgery is typically dependent upon factors such as the extent of your procedure, operating room fees, and your surgeon's experience. A facelift is not covered by insurance. However, many doctors offer financing to help make treatment more affordable.
So what happens during a facelift?
I'm worried about the incisions...
Modern Techniques & Endoscopic Technology Can Minimize Scarring
Patients without a large amount of excess, sagging skin may be good candidates for an endoscopic procedure. In contrast to traditional surgery, this technique involves very short incisions. The surgeon will then use a microscopic camera to guide very small surgical tools and make refinements beneath the skin.
Patients who wish to only address certain areas of the face may also benefit from a mini or mid facelift. A mini facelift focuses on the lower third of the face and jawline while a mid facelift addresses the undereye area, cheeks, and smile lines.
What happens during the appointment?
Day of Procedure
First, anesthesia will be administered for your comfort.
The doctor will then make the incisions around your earlobe, in front of the ears, or behind the ears.
The underlying muscles and loose skin will be tightened. Excess skin will then be removed.
The doctor will skillfully close the incisions to produce minimal scarring in discreet areas.
Immediately following surgery, drainage tubes will often be placed to help with swelling. You will also be provided with post-surgical dressings and compression garments to help you heal during recovery.
What can I do to protect and maintain my results?
Practice Sun Protection & Other Healthy Habits
A smooth recovery and proper maintenance are essential for a successful facelift. You should be able to return to your normal routine within 10 to 14 days of surgery, although it will take about two to three months before you feel back to normal.
To maintain the best results, patients should stay on top of sun protection, sustain a healthy lifestyle, and follow instructions for post-surgical care as closely as possible. Nonsurgical treatments, such as laser skin resurfacing and BOTOX® Cosmetic, can prolong your results, as well.

Results You Can Take Pride in
Every facelift is customized to the goals of the patient. Whether you hope to eliminate sagging skin, smooth out wrinkles around your mouth, or remove fat tissue, a facelift should create the look that best suits you. Ideally, a facelift will not only refine your facial features, but also help you to experience greater confidence in your appearance.
What do professionals think about endoscopic techniques?
Minimal Scarring & Improved Definition
"The endoscope eliminates the need for longer cuts, leading to a better cosmetic outcome in both the improvement of facial contour and the appearance of scars."
Konstantin Vasyukevich, double board-certified facial plastic surgeon
I want to look younger, but I'm still not sure whether a facelift is the best option...
