About Aleksandra Michalik, D.O.
Dr. Michalik grew up on Long Island and graduated cum laude from Cornell University. She worked as an analytical chemist at Estée Lauder and obtained her Holistic Health Practitioner license from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, affiliate to the Teachers College of Columbia University. Dr. Michalik received her medical degree, with honors, from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine of NYIT. She completed her ophthalmology residency at St. Johnâs Episcopal Hospital, Interfaith Medical Center, Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, and South Nassau Communities Hospital.
Dr. Michalikâs interest in glaucoma stems from working and conducting research with Dr. Jeffrey Freedman, who helped pioneer the use of implantable devices for the surgical treatment of glaucoma. Dr. Michalik completed her glaucoma fellowship at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, where she continued her research involvement in an ongoing multi-center study evaluating the potential effect of increased carotenoid intake on lowering the risk and progression of glaucoma.
Dr. Michalik is a proponent of continuing research and optimization of techniques in the field of ophthalmology. She is a member of the American Glaucoma Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology.
Some of her interests outside of work are outdoor sports and activities, traveling, art, nutrition, devoting time to family and friends, and maintaining an overall healthy and balanced lifestyle.
